Save $25 on a fuel injection cleaning

Save $25 on a fuel injection cleaning

Fuel injection cleaning is an important part of your cars health and efficiency. Inside your cars engine little explosions are going on thousands of times a minute. Thats why they call it an internal combustion engine. Any time there is fire or explosions there is going to be residue soot and varnish. In the same way the chimney in a fire place needs to be cleaned periodically your cars internal engine parts need to be cleaned. Modern cars are wonders of mechanical engineering. Todays cars are getting better milage, with less emissions and more power all at the same time. One of the ways they do this is with direct injection. This is a very efficient means of getting fuel to those thousands of explosions first used in the iconic Mercedes Gull Wing 300 SL. The down side is this this type of injection is that like a chimney which doesn’t get cleaned soot of carbon builds up on the internal parts of y ... read more

Mercedes Benz transmission bulletin

Mercedes Benz transmission bulletin

Did you know there is a Mercedes Benz transmission bulletin regarding potential issues with Mercedes Benz transmission manufactured since 2004? Transmission failure on these cars may be due to problems in a part of the transmission called the conductor plate. The plate in question holds speed sensors that tell the brains of the electronic transmission what gear the transmission is in. These sensors fail and are part of a module called a conductor plate. When they fail the transmission will typically not shift past second gear. This is referred to as “limp home mode.” Just as the name suggests limp home mode is programmed into the transmission so that if there is a failure, even though the transmission is not in a condition for general service the customer can, “limp home,” to a repair facility and the fault can be diagnosed and repaired. Don’t let any one sell you a Mercedes Benz transmission ... read more

Car Care Success

Car Care Success

We don’t often think of car care success when we think of our transportation. We find the kind of car of SUV we like, we buy it and we drive it right? If you think about it some car ownership is less stressful, more rewarding or just more fun than others. Almost everyone has a story about that Toyota or BMW they drove which was nearly trouble free. We also hear the stories about the cars which always seemed to be in the shop. What makes the difference? The late Stephen Covey taught on basic habits for a successful life. Some of the same habits apply to your Mercedes, BMW or Toyota as well. Mr Covey broke life down into four basic parts or quadrants. There is the important urgent, the important not urgent, the not important urgent and the not important not urgent. What is this guy talking about? Here is a graph which may help. You want to stay out of box number one. It is expensive. They best way to minimize your time in the first box, “Expensive Repairs,” is to spend time in the second ... read more

Rebuilt Mercedes Engine Started

Rebuilt Mercedes Engine Started

After Two years and a complete engine rebuild the 2.3-16 is started for the first time. Rebuilding the The Mercedes Cosworth 2.3-16 engine is not complicated but interesting. We found the timing chain rail almost worn through spreading metal through the engine. We removed the engine from the car replaced the rings and bearings, ground the valves replacing two valves along with the guides and seals. Replaced the timing chain and tensioner. Of course we replaced the oil pump and water pump with thermostat. Replaced the injectors and many of the damaged intake idle air hoses. A new clutch, pressure plate pilot and release bearings. The rebuilt Mercedes engine started up first try. Dubbed The Daily Driver we recorded the first start and I must say it was rewarding to hear the engine running smooth and strong. Next step is replace the suspension and get the car to Pacific Raceway to record some lap times. We specialize in Mercedes Benz service and repair but this is the ... read more

Mercedes Daily Driver

This Mercedes daily driver has set on the back lot behind my shop for the better part of a year. I’m just now to the place where I’m enjoying with some anticipation the notion of digging into this instructional project. The very first lesson from this mercedes daily driver: never spend more on an Internet purchase than you are willing to lose in Vegas. The previous owner of this car bought this 1987 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16 online and quickly found that a pre-purchase inspection kinda loses its value after the vehicle has been paid for. After an hour in my stall I informed the customer about how much it would cost again to make this Mercedes a daily driver. The actual cost was about twice what I quoted. The long and short of it was that he decided to bail on the daily driver dream, and he asked what it would be worth parting out on the Internet. I offered him a few hundred and he left me with the car and a strange sinking feeling. At cost, I shouldn’t get hurt too badl ... read more
